Mine It by The Scrappy Kat & Scrappin' Serenity

I'm going to admit that I've never played many video games but my boys are really into them so I had to snag the new kit, Mine It, from The Scrappy Kat & Scrappin' Serenity. I just know I'm going to have tons of video game pictures to scrap in the future!

As I don't have many game pictures to scrap right now, I decided to make a little hybrid project. Last week we went to Chuck E Cheese for the first time & we'll be going back many times which means I have to do something with all the tokens we bought. I had some small Mini M&M containers on hand which held our extra tokens perfectly so I did some measuring, designing & cutting to make some cute labels for the containers.

To make sure these labels stood up to the handling they're going to get, I used the same technique as for my box tops holder. First I glued the label to the container & let it dry. Then I sprayed over the whole label with Mod Podge Clear Acrylic Sealer to keep the colors from running. Once that was dry, I gave everything a good coat of Mod Podge Matte Finish. My boys were so excited to see their new token holders & of course demanded to go to Chuck E Cheese that minute!

The Big Bang by The Scrappy Kat

I am totally in love with the new collaboration The Big Bang from JMC Designs, Mommy Me Time Scrapper & The Scrappy Kat because just about everyone in my family is a science geek. And seriously, have you ever seen a science-themed kit that was this cute before?

Just love! I know I have a lot of pictures somewhere of my grandfather working in his lab while he was in graduate school in the 1930's but I can't find them. Instead I found this picture of my husband's lab space while he was a graduate student at MIT. He spent 5 years at that table & hood, I am still so proud of him.

Turn It Up Hybrid by Wendy Tunison Designs

Wendy Tunison Designs' hybrid chick Stephanie here again with another fun project. I just love making unexpected projects with kits & this time I used Wendy's new kit Turn It Up for my project. This is a great kit to use for any kid who likes to rock 'n roll!

But it's also good to use for fun projects that have nothing to do with rock 'n roll! For example, I have been collecting Box Tops for Eduction for my boys' school & they were just hanging out in my cupboards in a glass jelly jar. Boring & kind of a pain to unscrew the lid every time I had more box tops to add to the collection. Then I cleaned out my fridge & ended up with an empty Parmesan cheese jar. Light blub! Check out what I did!

Now it's so much easier to add box tops to the stash, I just open the large shaker section & drop them in. Plus I don't have to worry about dropping the jar & having it break (a concern with a house full of boys & a dog underfoot all the time). How I made this was really easy but I forgot to take pictures, here comes the written instructions.

First, find a jar you'd like to use. It can be any type of jar you have on hand, if you don't have a Parmesan cheese jar you can always punch a hole in the lid of another jar to avoid that pesky unscrewing problem. Wash & dry the jar & lid.

Next, measure the circumference & height of your jar; if the jar is tapered at the top, only measure up to where the jar starts to bend in. In your scraping program, create a rectangle with your measurements. I also like to measure out where the design will go on the front, how bit you make it is totally up to you!

Have some fun designing your label, even though Turn It Up is a rock 'n roll kit, there were plenty of generic elements included to use for my label. Print & cut it out, make sure that it fits nicely on your jar before you glue.

To make this a bit more sturdy & keep the label from ripping, I did a few different things. First I glued the label to the jar & let it dry. Then I sprayed over the whole label with Mod Podge Clear Acrylic Sealer to keep the colors from running. Once that was dry, I gave everything a good coat of Mod Podge Matte Finish. Yes, a bit extreme but now I'm 99.9% sure nothing will destroy the label. Well, as long as my kids or dog don't get a hold of it that is, those three could destroy anything.

Have fun making your own jar labels!

On the Lanes by Just For Fun Designs

My family just loves bowling, it's such a fun activity to do anytime of the year. That's why I was so excited to scrap with the new kit, On The Lanes by Just For Fun Designs, it's just what any bowler needs! The colors are so much fun & Kelly has included all the essential bowling elements to scrap any picture from a afternoon out to a tournament. You can also pick up a matching template set to get those layouts scrapped fast!

Here's Jake doing his thing, it's a little terrifying to watch as he's really, really determined to throw the ball as hard as he can. A 6 lbs ball may not be a big ball but it'll still hurt if it goes flying back towards someone!

Happy Haunting by B2N2 Scraps

Halloween is almost here! I am just loving all the Halloween kits that have been coming out over the past few weeks & I got to work with the new one from B2N2 Scraps, Happy Haunting. I love that the colors are traditional but still a little funky, plus those monsters are way too cute!

I've still got tons of pictures from last year to scrap, like these ones from my youngest's school parade. He's such a ham.

Just Us {October} Hybrid by Wendy Tunison Designs

Ack, is it really less than a week until Halloween? I better get cracking on putting together 40 of my latest hybrid project made with Wendy's new kit, Just Us {October}! Check out how cute it is, I mean aren't those little kids in costume elements to die for?

Of course being Halloween, I had to figure out something to do for my kids' classmates (hence the need for 40 of this project, I might be slightly crazy). Thankfully one of my favorite hybrid designers, Wendy Bird Designs, has a super cute Candy Wrap Up Template that you can pick up for free over at the Scrap Orchard forum until the end of October. This template is just the right size to hold a couple of mini candies or a pair of vampire teeth or a mini ring pop (that's our choice!).

I had a lot of fun designing the sides of the box, since I tend to like to use solid papers when putting elements on my projects, I used one of the word art papers for the flaps of the box. One really helpful thing that Wendy Bird does with her templates is provide all the parts of the templates as single & full sections so you can customize the templates. She also includes cutting files if you have a cutting machine, so helpful!

The box was very easy to assemble but one thing that I won't be doing when I sit down to assemble 40 of these suckers (heh) is use ribbons. I seem to have misplaced my third hand so instead I'm going to glue the flaps together to keep the box closed. That way my sanity is saved, always important. But if you decide to do the same, just remember to put the candy in the box before you glue the end flaps closed!

As you can see, the project turned out so cute & I just had to use the eyeball elements Wendy included in the kit. My kids turned it over & freaked, in a good way of course! I've left room to personalize the boxes for each class & I know my guys are going to love helping assemble these for their classmates.

Hint of Winter by Just For Fun Designs

The past few weeks have been a little crazy with some family issues but now that everything is sorted out, I can get around to posting my layouts for some of the wonderful new kits my CT bosses have made!

I'll start my catch-up-posting with Hint of Winter from Just For Fun Designs, I love the crisp clean feeling I get from looking at this lovely kit. It's a kit that will hopefully be needed over & over again once the snow starts to fall. Until October 31st, you can pick this kit up for free over at Scraps N Pieces with a $10 purchase of anything in the store!

Despite the fact that Halloween hasn't even happened yet, my boys are asking me over & over & over when the snow will start falling. Pity that I'm not a snow fan!
